Position Details
Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
SIPP in partnership with the National Park Service and Historic Trades and Preservation Center are seeking two interns who will participate in the Traditional Trades Apprenticeship Program. Members will receive introductory training in a variety of traditional trades and will develop an understanding of historic resource stewardship while helping to preserve our nation’s historic resources. This program provides participants with marketable skills and excellent exposure to the historic preservation career field within the NPS as well as the private sector.
These internship positions will work with the park facilities team at Springfield Armory National Historic Site and the Historic Preservation Training Center, each intern will have a respective focus in either:
Each intern will work alongside park staff at Springfield Armory National Historic Site to its colorful history in original buildings on their historic grounds.
Position Responsibilities will include:
HVAC: Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning
Applicant must have basic knowledge and ability to work around and with a variety of commercial mechanical and electrical systems.
Project Tasks:
Historic and Cultural Landscape Management Intern
Qualifications:
Applicant must have the ability to work around other using chainsaws and possibly motorized wood chippers, have the ability to use weed eaters, pruners, hand saws of various varieties, and assist with rope guides for tree work if needed.
