Hand-Making 18th and 19th Century House Paints
September 7, 2024 - September 8, 2024
$400Participants will make multiple types of housepaint (oil-based, limewash, and distemper), using traditional materials and methods. Paints will be ground on a muller and slab, as well as in a paint mill. Materials will include: linseed oil, animal glue, dry pigments, and chalk. Students will also learn about historic brushes and brushing techniques.

Instructors:
- Erika Sanchez Goodwillie – Studied Preservation Carpentry at the North Bennet Street School. Since 2009 she has made and installed paint for period-specific restorations in historic homes and museums.
- Christopher Mills – Principal of Christopher Mills Conservation, specializing in architectural conservation and recreation of 18th and 19th century interior finishes using traditional methods.
