Historic Window Restoration Technician

General statement of duties:

Richardson Window Works (RWW) restores, rehabilitates, and repairs, historic wood windows for residential and commercial customers in Central New York, Northern New York, Northern Pennsylvania, and the Hudson Valley. In addition to window rehabilitation, RWW also fabricates reproduction wood windows, custom storm windows, and is a Mon-Ray aluminum storm window dealer. Window technicians perform work in the shop and at client properties in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Window Restoration. Most work is accomplished as a team and training may be provided for all processes and procedures so that everyone is cross-trained.

Specific duties:

• Take windows into the restoration process (label, number, remove hardware)
• Operate a steam box
• Strip windows according to lead-safe practices an in a manner that preserves the sticking profile
• Perform epoxy repairs
• Clean historic glass
• Glaze sash with linseed-oil-based putty
• Prime and paint sash according to detailed specifications
• Restore and repair hardware
• Reinstall windows to ensure they function properly
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
• Develop other competencies as required for projects

Qualifications

• Ability to take direction and work in a team environment
• Problem solving skills: troubleshoot, assess problems, present solutions.
• Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 30 lbs. for 50 feet.
• Ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet and work on staging, operate a boom lift
• Ability to work with power tools, hand-tools, lumber, and materials
• Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Possess a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
