HistoriCorps: Section House, CO

We need amazing volunteers like you to help us restore the iconic Section House atop Boreas Pass!

PROJECT PARTNER: Pike-San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands

SESSION DATES: August 3-8, August 10-15, August 17-22, and August 24-29 (NEW SESSION ADDDED!)

CAPACITY PER SESSION: 7 Volunteers + 1 Kitchen Helper

PROJECT SUPERVISORS: Ian “IO” Oeser & Kat Weisbecker

HistoriCorps is committed to educating and training volunteers in preservation skills, with an overarching mission of inspiring a preservation ethic in all those involved. Learning and working alongside expert HistoriCorps field staff and other volunteers while applying the traditional skills necessary to restore Section House, you will assist to:

• Complete site grading/foundation work at Ken’s Cabin.
• Repair/replace Ken’s Cabin logs.
• Daub Ken’s Cabin.
• Complete staining of the windows and exterior doors within the Main House.
• Complete daubing of the Main House.
• If time allows: rehabilitate Ken’s Cabin windows, repair/stain woodshed siding, and repair/stain outhouse siding.

Please note: Tasks vary by day and by week, depending on a variety of factors including: weather, project priorities, previous groups’ work, and more. Though it is likely you will get to learn and practice most or all of the above tasks, it is not guaranteed. The higher percentage of the scope a particular task is, the more likely you will get to practice it.
