ARTisAn Objective® Workshop MAS-11 Lithomex® LEVEL III Advanced Ornamental Terracotta & Stone Repair Workshop

1 Day – 8:00 am to 3:00 pm

Instead of simply replacing damaged ornamental terracotta and stone elements, long-lasting seamless repairs can be achieved with the techniques taught at Craftwork Training Center’s NEW class, Lithomex® LEVEL III Advanced Ornamental Terracotta & Stone Repair.

Students will first begin the day with a short material science lecture on the reasons for original material loss and how precise work can be achieved using the masonry restoration industry’s favorite repair material for this type of application, Saint-Astier® brand Lithomex®. Under the guidance of our highly skilled Lithomex® instructors at the Craftwork Training Center, students will become exposed to methods used to create custom tools in advance so that the tooling details can be exactly replicated and the final product can show original finishes for an authentic and ‘invisible’ repair. Focus will be placed on the details of proper preparation. Students will participate in a hands-on application experience installing Lithomex® to their ornate piece of terracotta with instruction on the nuances of properly prepping and working in a patch upon the vintage host material. Ultimately, students will walk away with a better understanding of the intricate process of preparing and carrying out a seamless patching repair of damaged and decayed terracotta and stone.

The new tools that class participants will be provided to use are included in the cost of the class.

Learning Objectives:

  • Begin to understand the science behind breathable natural hydraulic lime.
  • Begin to understand how to prepare the ornamental terracotta or stone masonry.
  • Be introduced to the steps to mix and apply Lithomex® for optimal durability.
  • Receive hands-on training on how to create specialty tools for matching the existing pattern.
  • Begin to understand how to achieve a seamless blend of Lithomex® on the host masonry.

The workshop will be held at the historic Millhafen Farm—the headquarters of Craftwork Training Center and LimeWorks.us—located at 3145 State Road, Telford, PA 18969. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required two weeks in advance with the balance due at the beginning of the workshop. All the necessary materials and tools will be supplied and a light lunch is provided for your convenience. The program will start promptly at 8:00 am. Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete the check-in process and come appropriately dressed and prepared for hands-on training. To ensure an exceptional learning experience, the class size is limited. However, a minimum of 6 participants is required to hold the workshop.
