Job Summary: Restoration Techs assist Specialists and Supervisors in the restoration of historic millwork components and learn the restoration process.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
– Assisting other employees and managers in the workshop and in the field
– Oversee and direct Laborers
– Learn and apply appropriate building preservation methods
– Job site and workshop duties may include: Deconstructing/labeling historic system components for removal to shop, removing loose paint, sanding, minimal epoxy application, hardware restoration, component repair and replacement, masking, caulking, painting, clamping and squaring old window sashes, using tools to weatherstrip or modify in the field, fabricating new components, and glazing historic windows
Other Responsibilities:
– Effectively communicate with coworkers and Managers as it relates to projects
– Follow company policies and safety procedures
– Maintain a clean, and organized work area
Job Qualifications:
– One to Three years of experience in trade work, specifically painting or trim carpentry
– Knowledge of historic buildings and systems not necessary but is a plus
– Basic math skills
– Able to work from ladders and scaffolding and help in their setup and takedown
– Able to work outdoors in various types of weather and in non conditioned interiors
– Familiar with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for historic preservation (Primarily #9, #10, and #13)
– Able to lift/carry 50 lbs
– Able to work as part of a team to complete projects
– Able to work out of town and stay overnight
