One of preservationists’ most common cries is to ‘Save Wood Windows!’ Understanding how to implement vital maintenance and repair of wood windows conserves their functionality and helps preserve a building’s historic character.

Join AARCH at Croghan’s Adirondack Mennonite Heritage Farm to learn how to repair, restore, and preserve wood windows with experienced window restoration specialist, Kurt Riegel. Through this workshop, attendees will gain both hands-on experience and crucial insight from an expert in saving wood windows. Participants will practice window restoration techniques and learn about proper maintenance for extending the life of historic windows. Techniques covered in this workshop include properly removing wood sashes, repairing and replacing deteriorated sash pieces, using epoxy, paint stripping and sanding, glazing, and painting.

By the end of this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of basic window parts, how they properly function, how to best maintain them to prevent decay, and how to make them more energy efficient.

This workshop is led by Kurt Riegel of Riegel Restoration and runs from 9 AM to 4 PM for both days.

The fee is $150 for AARCH members and $170 for non-members. Lunch for both days is included.
