Location Details/Description: These two internships are shared between two nearby parks, Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park and Saint Gaudens National Historical Park.

Nestled among the rolling hills of eastern-central Vermont, the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (MABI), Vermont’s only national park, preserves and interprets the history of the conservation movement in the United States through the stories of three families associated with the property. The park features the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller mansion and a series of nuclear fallout shelters, 20 miles of carriage roads and trails, and over 500 acres of the oldest scientifically managed forest in the United States. The park is also home to the NPS Stewardship Institute, an advanced study institute exploring new avenues of conservation leadership and practice in the National Park Service.

Known as the “National Park for the Arts,” Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park celebrates the gardens, home, studio and art of internationally renowned sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907). The park is in the picturesque rural community of Cornish, New Hampshire, about thirty minutes from the large college town of Hanover. Stretching along the Connecticut River, the park’s 190 acres of formal gardens, open fields, and dense forest is punctuated with twenty historic buildings all linked through hiking trails. In partnership with the nonprofit Saint-Gaudens Memorial, the site promotes the arts through exhibitions, special events, and programs throughout the summer.

For more information about these parks, please visit their NPS websites.
