
Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training

Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training (BHIT) is a training program for historic tradespeople/educators to understand and implement the Beyond Hands-On method of instruction. Trainees receive a certificate of completion and can be offered contracts as Beyond Hands-On Instructors:
- by the NPS Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) to instruct Brick, Earth, Stone, Timber (B.E.S.T.) Workshops
- by Preservation Maryland to instruct Save Our Skills (S.O.S.) Workshops
BHIT is a cohort-based training model with 6 modules of 30 hours of instruction plus a practicum, comprised of in-person, online, and self-paced activities. Please see the agenda for details on the modules and locations, and related time and travel commitments. Modules are interactive learning experiences that build off each other and move trainees from awareness to action; they are not lecture-style.
Cohort 1 is an invitation-exclusive training that begin on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Additional pre-scheduled trainings will be held on Tuesday, June 6 and Tuesday, June 27 – Thursday, Jun 29, 2023. The remainder of the training modules are self-scheduled. See details in the agenda below–all times listed are EST.
