Savannah Technical College Registration

Savannah is known for its history and remarkable design – from parks and squares that celebrate this incredible city’s past to the elaborate buildings that reflect the high architectural styles of former generations. The First City, with its timeless architecture and diverse landscapes, is an essential part of the preservation movement and our nation’s history.

Savannah has eight Local Historic Districts and 12 National Register Districts (including two National Historic Landmark Districts) each with hundreds of buildings. Many of these buildings have been saved with some receiving recognition and certification. Any historic property needs a trained preservationist to restore or maintain the structure or it risks losing its historic integrity.

From classes that include Architectural Print Reading to History and Theory, to Material Sciences; this program prepares its graduates to work locally within the historic districts as well as nationwide with hundreds of historic properties and community commissions.

As the only public hands-on Historic Preservation program in Georgia and one of seven in the U.S., the College has led the way in preservation education, specializing in training not typically held by construction workers. The program has gained international recognition and has contributed to a number of community-based preservation projects in the surrounding communities. Traditional Building Magazine named Savannah Tech’s Historic Preservation program one of the nation’s Up and Coming programs.
