This year’s host institution is Emory University, a private research institution established in 1836. Conveniently located northeast of downtown Atlanta between interstates 85 and 285, Emory University is accessible by public transportation and private vehicles. Please see the Emory University guest information booklet for additional information. We look forward to greeting you during check-in at the Woodruff Residential Center, our headquarters for the conference. There are several different registration rates to accommodate a range of budgets and schedules. The rates below are for current AGS members. Non-members may join to receive the lower rates.

  • Full Conference Registration – On Campus Lodging, $650.00 per person (includes all activities, sessions, events, Preservation Workshop, meals, and dormitory room from Tuesday dinner through Sunday breakfast)
    • Guest Registration – On Campus Lodging, $450.00 per person (includes all meals, opening reception, and Awards banquet and dormitory room from Tuesday dinner through Sunday breakfast but no activities), available as part of the full conference registration process.
  • Full Conference Registration – On Your Own Lodging, $450.00 per person (includes all activities, sessions, events, Preservation Workshop, and meals, Tuesday dinner through Sunday breakfast – arrange your own lodging)
  • Day by Day Conference Registration, price varies (includes all activities, sessions, events, and meals for the specific day)
  • Virtual Only Conference Registration, $150.00 per person (includes all paper sessions, evening lectures, and the Awards Banquet presentation; pre-recorded cemetery field trips will also be provided)
  • Preservation Workshop Only Registration, $125.00 per person (includes the Thursday on campus lecture session and the all-day Friday field session, limited spots to non-full conference participants)

Registration for full conference, conference with your own lodging, and day-by-day registration closes on May 15th. The last day to cancel and request a refund for these registrations is May 15th.

Preliminary Conference Schedule (Check-in is available each day except Sunday)

  • Tuesday, June 18: Beginning mid-afternoon, check in and possible nearby cemetery field trip, and dinner
  • Wednesday, June 19: All day cemetery field trip to nearby Atlanta cemeteries, opening reception, and Late Night (signup available during check in at registration desk); Silent Auction opens
  • Thursday, June 20: Paper sessions and workshops, evening talks, and Late Night; on campus lecture session of the Preservation Workshop
  • Friday, June 21: Paper sessions and workshops, AGS Annual Meeting, and Late Night; the all-day field session of the Preservation Workshop at cemetery TBD
  • Saturday, June 22: All day cemetery field trips, Awards Banquet, and Late Night; Silent Auction closes
  • Sunday, June 23: Breakfast and checkout

AGS welcomes proposals for twenty minute scholarly research papers or standalone workshops about gravestone studies from persons of all backgrounds and research fields. Past presenters have included students, professionals, senior academics, and independent researchers from the fields of art history, archaeology, conservation, carver studies, historic preservation, cultural history, epigraphy, African American history, quarry researchers, cemetery managers, etc. Please see our Call for Proposals for more information. Currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students may also submit for our Student Scholarship in addition to being considered for the regular program.

The deadline for submission is March 29, 2024.
